Writer: accessiblefoodieaccessiblefoodie

Located in the heart of downtown Asheboro, Nannie Maes stands out as a beloved destination for both locals and visitors alike, offering an array of amazing treats that perfectly complement the equally delightful selection of coffee and tea. Since its opening a few years ago, Nannie Maes has quickly established itself as a staple for anyone visiting Asheboro, drawing people in with its charming ambiance and irresistible aromas.

The bakery's extensive selection includes an impressive variety of pastries, cookies, brownies, muffins, and seasonal specialties. What truly enhances the experience at Nannie Maes is the thoughtfully curated beverage menu, from seasonal specials to personal favorites. The combination of these delightful drinks with the freshly baked goods creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Moreover, the friendly and attentive staff at Nannie Maes adds to the overall charm of the establishment. Their genuine smiles and willingness to help customers choose the perfect treat or drink create a welcoming environment that makes you feel right at home. Whether you're looking for a cozy spot to unwind, a quick pick-me-up, or a place to gather with friends, Nannie Maes is sure to become a treasured part of your Asheboro experience.

Parking:

Directly in front of Nannie Maes are, very limited, on-street parallel parking spots. Across the street are several on-street diagonal spots and approx. 1 block down is an open parking area located in Bicentennial Park (151 Sunset Ave.) for easy access for all of downtown Asheboro. The park parking lot features several designated handicap accessible parking spots that lead to the flat sidewalk to enjoy downtown. Access to Nannie Maes from the Bicentennial Parking Lot requires one-two road crossing with labeled cross walks but does not offer pedestrian lights. The only pedestrian lights are located at the end of the block at the Business 220 and Sunset Ave traffic light.

Entry:

As you enter Nannie Maes through the pull to enter door, your eyes will notice the shimmer of the lights on all of the delicious treats that await you. As you enter, the floor is level with only the doors threshold to maneuver as you enter. Treats are on display at waist height and above with the drink menu on the wall behind the counter. As you move past the treats, the ordering counter, slightly above waist height, is where you place your order verbally.

Seating:

To access window-front seating, you need to use 2-3 small steps. Alternatively, the main level provides a variety of flexible seating choices for guests, though availability might be limited during peak times. Nannie Maes has made great efforts to increase seating options for patrons and has added more seating beyond the counter. Once seated, the friendly staff is happy to bring your items to the table if necessary.

Restroom Facilities:

Nannie Maes offers two single-use restrooms with grab bars, and the sink and hand towels are positioned at wheelchair height.

Menu Highlights:

Try the seasonal latte and grab both a savory and a sweet snack! Some of our favorites from the sweeter side include the cinnamon roll, chocolate-chip cookie, and the cherry turnover.

For a savory taste, we love a slice of the quiche or the Spinach and Ricotta Danish.

Key Features for Accessibility:

Level entry with push to open doors.

Majority of seating on same level, with flexible sitting options.

Single use restrooms, located in the back of the cafe with space for mobility devices.

Wonderful and friendly staff!

Important Notes on Accessibility:

During peak hours, parking directly in front of the store might be scarce, and visitors may need to use the nearby Bicentennial Park Parking lot, walking approximately one block along the sidewalk to reach this location.

Additionally, during busy times, seating might be limited, and ordering may require prolonged standing to wait in line to order.
